TOLONG, SAYA SAKIT....

Sebuah iklan sepatu olahraga membuat slogan: Extend your limit. Sejak sepuluh tahun terakhir memang lah kelas-kelas motivasi bermunculan di merata-rata tempat. Tak hanya di Indonesia tetapi juga di Malaysia. Sesetengah mereka menurut kawan-kawan di media tak mempunyai tauliah untuk mengajarkan apa-apa jua yang berkaitan dengan motivasi.
Saya pun tak terkecuali. Sejak menjadi salah satu fellow Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, saya memang seringkali menantang diri sendiri pada apa-apa jua keterbatasan. Saya berkesempatan mengikuti kursus: Learning Organization/ Leadership on Reproductive Health dari John Hopkins University Baltimore United States. Pengajar kursus tersebut adalah Prof.Dr.Benjamin Lozare, dan Prof.Emeritus Henry Mosley, MD. Saat kami menjadi peserta, maka fellow untuk Learning Organization baru 300 orang di dunia pada tahun 2000.
Mereka berdua memang membakar semangat saya untuk mengejar impian pribadi saya. Yakni: dekat dengan keluarga :-)). Saya meninggalkan dunia televisi yang menempatkan saya bagai selebriti, muncul di majalah, terpampang di tabloid-tabloid seperti Nova, Bintang Indonesia dan juga harian-harian bergengsi seperti Surabaya Post, Surya, Jawa Pos, koran TEMPO dan juga Koran KOMPAS.
Televisi sebenarnya bagai darah yang mengalir dalam diri saya. Kalau saya melihat tayangan TV 9, TV I dan 2 di Malaysia, saya bisa gemas melihatnya. Saya sampai berpikir bagaimana tim riset di stasiun TV tersebut tak dapat mengatur run-down tayangan dan memoles sebuah acara dengan menarik. Tak heran jika ramai penonton memilih menggunakan TV berbayar. Hanya saja TV terlalu menguras waktu saya sebagai ibu dan istri dan terutama sekali sebagai manusia juga. Hehehe...
SAYA MENYERAH
Tubuh saya demam dan hidung saya nyaris buntu saat menghadap penyelia riset saya, di ruangan beliau. Kami berdiskusi. "Are you not feeling well?" tanyanya. Saya mengangguk tersenyum lemah. Itu sebenarnya saya sudah terbaring di rumah selama 7 hari karena flu, sakit kepala, batuk membuat saya menambah dosis semua obat. Pengencer dahak, anti alergi, vitamin dan terpaksa meminum antibiotika karena memang demam terus.
Entah kenapa kemudian keesokkan harinya saya mual dan muntah. Sensitif pada bau dan akhirnya saya memutuskan meminum obat maag dan juga obat anti muntah. Berapa lama saya menderita mual-mual dan sensitif pada bau? 10 hari!
Firda, kawan saya mengatakan: ada baiknya saya periksa darah mengingat mual saya cukup lama. Saya sendiri memeriksa denyut nadi, dan menekan beberapa bagian perut: hepar, lambung. Juga saat saya stetoskop suara perut saya oke saja. Jadi saya simpulkan saya tak ada gangguan pankreas, usus buntu.
Saya ke Pusat Kesihatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia untuk mendapatkan pendapat kedua (second opinion, antar dokter kami biasa begitu) diagnosanya sama dengan saya yakni gastritis, asam lambung meningkat. Hanya penyebabnya yang membuat saya tertawa: "You're stress with your thesis perhaps" senyum dokter ber-etnis India tersebut.
Saya pikir mungkin iya.
SAYANGI TUBUHMU.
Tuhan sudah memberikan malam untuk beristirahat dan siang hari untuk bekerja. Saya membuatnya nyaris 24 jam bekerja. Mengapa? saya kan juga istri dan ibu tiga orang anak? Maka saya baru dapat bekerja kalau mereka tidur. Apalagi sekarang, kami memutuskan tidak menghantar lagi anak-anak kami ke TASKA. Mengapa? kami tidak mempercayai pola asuh. Sekarangpun saya baru tahu bahwa kemampuan sebagian pengasuh Taska dan juga Tadika untuk mengajar juga memprihatinkan. (Utusan Malaysia).
Saya memaksa tubuh saya bekerja tanpa menghiraukan alarm tubuh saya sudah berbunyi berkali-kali. Akhirnya saya ambruk. Suami saya sempat khawatir kalau saya memerlukan infus maka saya harus dirawat di rumah sakit. Tetapi untungnya. Tidak.
Jadi total 15 hari saya terbaring lemah, badan berbau karena malas mandi, dan beribadah pun seperti orang uzur. Saya memohon ampun kepada Allah. Betapa menakutkannya ketika sakit, suami dan anak-anak pun terbengkalai. Mereka serba kebingungan.
Maka, sekali lagi tubuh juga mempunyai haknya. Istirahatlah ketika kantuk menyergapmu.
Sayangilah tubuhmu. Kesehatan sangat berharga. Kekayaan yang tak dapat dinilai dengan apapun juga.

I can boost my mood with foods!

Nowadays, I feel so stress. I must do a lot statistics on my research. I have to manage my time correctly since I have to keep 3 children by myself. It is hard because I do not have a maid to help my homework. Then, my husband is living far away from us.
I worry on my timetable, I feel down often.
Then, I realized, I must keep logic. I believe that mind and body cope better when you get the right foods, with essential vitamins and minerals that not only boost your energy but keep you mellow too.
ALMONDS
I tried to eat almond. I bought it in groceries not far from my place. Just a few will keep your heart from racing when panic attacks. They help lower blood pressure and keep oxygen flowing throughout the body.
SPINACH
It is rich in magnesium which helps lower stress level by keeping you calm. I made it as ‘tumis bayam’: heat cooking oil then fried the spinach with Bombay onion and garlic.
ORANGES
Get your cocktail of vitamin C from an orange. Stress can deplete your supply of vitamin C which your body does not produce naturally. Vitamin C helps your immune system function more efficiently under stress. I always buy oranges in a big cartoon box.
MILK
The calcium in milk can help soothe anxiety and restore tranquility. A small glass gives restless bodies a close of vitamin B2.

ANTI STRESS FOODS!
Have you feel bored? Hohoho…it was awful wasn’t it?! I felt boring when I was waiting for exam results. And Do you realized that stress hide behind boring? A stressful lifestyle can leave our energy strapped, and being short on time makes it even harder to prepare high-energy foods. Try eats these foods.
Carb Rich Foods
Healthy snacks, such as a slice of wholemeal toast, can help boost your levels of serotonin, a calming brain chemical.
Chocolate
Recharge with a few dark chocolate squares, which UK researchers say have the mood and energy boosting stimulants caffeine and theobromine. I love chocolate very much! I put a lot inside my refrigerator. It is really works!

Studies show that athletes deprived of fluids and fluid-rich foods felt fatigued and suffered lapses in memory. For energy, choose water rich snacks and fresh produce over dry packaged foods like pretzels and chips. Foods that swell when cooked like pasta and oatmeals, are also smart picks.
